Amecea Delegation Visits Uganda Martyrs Shrine Namugongo

A delegation from the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) has visited the Uganda Martyrs Catholic Shrine, Namugongo, as part of its ongoing activities in Uganda.

The delegation was led by the Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Blantyre in Malawi, accompanied by the AMECEA Secretary General, Rev. Fr. Andrew Kaufa.
During the visit, the delegation had an opportunity to visit the historic Namugongo Shrine, a significant centre of Christian faith, pilgrimage and devotion, particularly in honour of the Uganda Martyrs.
AMECEA brings together nine member countries: Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and Uganda, fostering collaboration among the Catholic Church in Eastern Africa.
The team is currently in Uganda for activities focused on safeguarding and child protection, an initiative that AMECEA has been implementing since 2019.
The current phase of the programme focuses on introducing and strengthening safeguarding policies and practices in major seminaries across the region, with the aim of promoting safe environments and protecting children and vulnerable persons within Church institutions.
The visit to Namugongo highlights the importance of faith, collaboration and the Church's continued commitment to safeguarding and protecting the dignity of every person.
